Don't Stop Reading In The Middle Of The Story

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:17–18 (NKJV)
Imagine reading a book and stopping in the hardest chapter. The hero is struggling, everything seems lost, and nothing makes sense. If you closed the book there, you would think the story ended in defeat.
Many of us do that with our own lives. We let today's pain convince us that tomorrow has no hope. But God is still writing the story. This chapter may be difficult, but it is not the last one.
Don't let today's struggle make you forget the ending God has already promised.

When We Run Out, Jesus Steps In

Have you ever found yourself in a place where you have done everything you know to do, but the situation still feels impossible?

A place where you have prayed, waited, and hoped, but you are still standing in the middle of uncertainty? Maybe you feel like you have run out of answers. Maybe you feel like the joy, strength, opportunity, or hope you once carried is running low. But the story of Jesus turning water into wine in John 2 reminds us of a powerful truth: when we run out, Jesus steps in.
At the wedding in Cana, a problem appeared that seemed impossible to solve. The celebration was running out of wine, and there was nothing the people could do to fix it. But Mary, the mother of Jesus, knew exactly where to turn. She went to Jesus because she knew that what was impossible for people was possible for Him. Mary had faith before she had evidence. She did not know how Jesus would solve the problem or what the miracle would look like, but she knew that Jesus was able.
That is what faith does. Faith does not require us to understand every detail. Faith requires us to trust the One who holds every detail. Mary’s instruction to the servants was simple: “Do whatever He tells you.” Those words were not just instructions for the servants at the wedding but they are instructions for every believer today.
Sometimes God’s greatest miracles begin with our smallest acts of obedience. The servants did not see the miracle immediately. They filled the jars with water first. They obeyed before they understood. They moved before they saw the outcome. Then Jesus did what only Jesus could do, He took something ordinary and made it extraordinary.

Prayer: Author and Finisher of My Faith

The LORD will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
Psalm 138:8

Daily I walk along the path of choosing. Decisions of life and death constantly before me. My choices will either draw me to you or lead me away. Each day I will declare that you are my God and nothing, not even my own selfish desires, will rule my life.

I fall into your arms. Not because I'm weary or defeated, but because I know you are my only hope. You don't want me to strive and take control. You only ask that I rest in you and release every care.

Without you, I'm nothing. Though my mind seeks to know the outcome of every situation, I will trust you. Your love has never failed me. I don't need to understand all of your plans, I only need to believe that they are good. You are the Author and Finisher of my faith. Every one of your faithful promises will come to pass. You will finish the work you've started in me.

Excerpt from "Prayers on Fire: Praying the Psalms" by Brian Simmons

Prayer: My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less Than Jesus

Lord, my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus, the solid rock on which I stand.
Everything else in this life is shifting sand, temporary and unreliable, but You are the foundation that will never crumble, never fail, never let me down.
Teach me to anchor my hope in You alone, not in my circumstances, not in other people, not in my own strength or plans, but in the unchanging truth of who You are.
Help me recognize when I'm building my life on shaky ground, when I'm trusting in what's temporary instead of what's eternal, when I'm leaning on anything other than You.
Remind me that when everything else falls apart, when plans fail and dreams shatter and nothing goes the way I hoped, You remain, steady and sure and worthy of my trust.
Give me the wisdom to build my life on the solid foundation of Your truth, Your promises, Your character, knowing that what's built on You will stand no matter what storms come.
Let my hope be unshakeable because it's rooted not in what I can see or control but in Jesus, the rock of my salvation, my anchor in every season.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.

Finding Peace in the Storm To Carry You Through

“...Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”
Mark 6:50b (NKJV)

My first time visiting the state of Georgia was before we had smartphones and instant weather reports. As I drove out to hike a mountain, local news warned of intermittent showers.

But after parking, I realized I’d forgotten my rain gear. Should I leave? The sun was shining. Armed with waterproof hiking boots and a baseball cap, I figured, I’ll be fine.

Hours later, as I trekked through thick woods, it started sprinkling. Then rain poured in sheets, coming down sideways. Storm clouds quickly moved in, darkening the sky. Gusts of wind howled. Claps of explosive thunder boomed as lightning discharged around me in ominous, intense flashes like strobe lights.

I was scared and disoriented. It got so dark I couldn’t see the trail well without a flashlight or a map. There I stood, cold and soaked through in the middle of a thunderstorm.

That’s how life’s “storms” often are too. Troubling circumstances happen suddenly. We feel helpless, unsure what to do - our world seemingly spinning out of control.

The truth is we aren’t in control. But God is.

Jesus stands in our confusion and whispers, Take My hand. I will carry you through. I am with you. I will be your peace.

Sometimes the only way out is letting Jesus take us through the storm - and finding that His peace will carry us better than any plan.

Once, Jesus was alone on a mountain praying after sending His disciples ahead of Him into the Sea of Galilee. They, too, met a storm (Mark 6:45-48). Why would Jesus send them on a journey knowing they’d encounter bad weather?

Jesus saw His friends straining at the oars, and He came to them: “Immediately he spoke to them and said, ‘Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid’” (Mark 6:50b).

Peter attempted to walk to Jesus on the water but sank because he feared the wind’s strength. “Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him,” Matthew 14:31 tells us (ESV). Then Jesus got into the boat, and the wind stopped.

Jesus is with us in every storm and calms us with His promises. He moves us from having “head knowledge” to personally experiencing the powerful peace of His presence. Because peace, after all, is a person.

God has a plan in the storms of life, but we don’t always know what it is. That’s the part that requires faith. Jesus offers His hand instead of a map.

Holding on to Him means letting go of Plan A, B, or C. You can take it one day at a time - and remember you’re not alone. Reach out for help, and surround yourself with friends to support you.

Jesus sees you. He is with you. And even if He doesn’t calm the winds, He will carry you through.

Dear Jesus, take my hand. Be my peace. Never let me go. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

God Knows What's Best

Waiting seasons can feel uncomfortable. When doors close… when prayers feel delayed… when life is not unfolding the way you expected… it can be tempting to panic, force outcomes, or assume God has forgotten you. But sometimes God is not rejecting you. He is preparing you. Protecting you. Positioning you. Not every closed door is punishment. Some are mercy. Some are redirection. Some are simply reminders that God sees farther ahead than we do.
Trust Him in the waiting. Trust Him in the uncertainty. Trust Him even when you cannot yet understand the full picture. God is still working behind doors you cannot see yet.

Finding Contentment Through Christ's Strength

“I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13 (CSB)

Help!

This word may be simple, but my prayer sure wasn’t. It was one of the most gut-wrenching prayers I had ever prayed … and the most powerful.

It came after months of watching an already heartbreaking situation spin devastatingly out of control. I had cried out in prayer many times, offering up my solutions to God. But I was all out of words, with nothing left but a cry for help.

Have you ever come to the end of yourself like that?

I’m reminded of Philippians 4:13: “I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me.”

Sometimes we may be tempted to read this verse out of context, but God's Word isn't cheerleading us to do whatever we want. While it’s true that anything good we accomplish is by God's power (John 15:5), if we zoom out a bit in the book of Philippians, we see Paul’s words weren't really about achieving our dreams.

Instead, Paul wrote his letter to the church in Philippi to encourage believers to find joy in Christ, persevere in faith no matter what, and “be content” in all circumstances (Philippians 4:11-12, CSB). The good and the bad. Moments of triumph and moments of desperation and emptiness.

When he wrote this around A.D. 60-64, Paul was imprisoned in Rome for preaching the gospel. When he said, “I am able to do all things,” he mostly meant things no one wants to do, like endure suffering and wait for God to intervene. Yet Paul revealed the secret to his contentment: It came by Christ’s strength alone.

Paul was not speaking about mere feelings of happiness, which he wasn't feeling in prison. Instead, true contentment means deeply trusting in God’s sovereignty and receiving His peace even when life feels overwhelming.

In my situation, I had been fighting God for control. I knew my desired outcome. Though I knew I should pray for His will to be done … what if His will went against everything I desperately wanted to happen?

But my strength was gone, so I had only two choices: 1) give up and sink into despair or 2) trust the God of the universe to do what He knew was best.

I chose the latter. And while the situation didn’t change, I sure did. Peace flooded my heart as I went from wrestling God to resting in His sovereign power and grace.

Contentment amid heartbreak is possible when we choose to rely on His strength rather than our own. Is there something you need to let go of to experience that for yourself? Will you trust Him enough to do so? Even if all you have to offer is a cry for help, that's all you really need.

Father, trusting You can be hard, but wrestling You is even harder. Give us the strength to lay down our resistance so we can experience true strength and contentment that comes only from You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

The Calendar Changes but Christ Doesn’t

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8 (ESV)

Here we go again … another January.

I was back at my dead-end job after the holidays, feeling about 10 pounds heavier (my mom’s mac and cheese was worth it though), stuck and alone in a city where friends seemed to change faster than the seasons. I was still processing the quiet ache of grief. Some people were gone too soon, and others had just walked out of my life without explanation.

The holiday celebrations were over. The sparkle had faded. As I sat at my desk, staring at a computer screen that barely paid my bills, I wasn’t thinking about resolutions or goals. I was thinking about all that had changed in the past year, how behind I felt, and how much I didn’t like it.

Change can be beautiful, but it can also feel brutal. Sometimes January doesn’t feel like a fresh start. It feels like a reminder that time keeps moving whether we’re ready or not.

But here’s what I’ve learned since that quiet, lonely January: While life constantly changes, Christ never does.

When friends walk away, He remains close.
When plans fall apart, He stays sovereign.
When the world feels unfamiliar because of grief or disappointment, He is still God.

Hebrews 13:8 reminds us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Even when everything around us shifts, we still have a steady foundation. He doesn’t come and go with the seasons. He doesn’t change His mind when others do. His goodness, His promises, and His presence remain.

So if this new year already feels uncertain, remember: God isn’t pacing the floors of heaven wondering what to do next. He’s fully in control and fully guiding you. It is not your job to understand why things look the way they do, but you can expect God to use your present circumstances to lead you to His goodness. He’s still the same Savior who carried you through last year, and He’ll carry you through this one too.

When we rely on Him through life’s changes, we can experience growth. Change isn’t just about walking away from what was; it’s about what God is bringing our way next.

In my life, I look back now and realize my dead-end job actually ended months later, but that led to something new. The friends who walked away made room for ones who would change my life. There was never a reason to fear the unknown because God was already there, leading me toward His best.

I just wish I could go back and tell my younger self: You don’t need to fear a future God is already in. God is refining you.

Let’s stay close to the One who never changes, even when everything else does. Don’t resent the growth or the change. Expect God to show up in it.

Lord, thank You that while life changes, You never do. Help me trust You with the unknowns ahead and to believe that every change is an invitation to grow closer to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer: God Knows...

Jesus Wants You To Know...

Remember that I can fit everything into a pattern for good, including the things you wish were different. Start with where you are at this point in time and space, accepting that this is where I intend for you to be.
"And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose." - Romans 8:28 (AMP) - "Dear Jesus" by Sarah Young

God Is The Way Maker

Stop worrying about what you are going to do. God is still the Way Maker. He is already opening the road in front of you, even where you cannot see a path ahead.

Your heart may feel worn out. You lie awake and stare at the ceiling, replaying conversations, test results, bank statements, what your children did or did not say. You think through every “what if,” every worst case, every burden you are carrying for the people you love, and by morning you feel empty.

You love the Lord. You have walked with Him for years, yet your thoughts still run ahead of you, trying to peek around every corner. You wish you could see the plan, the timeline, the exact way He will help your family, your health, your future. The not knowing sits on your chest like a weight you cannot quite push away.

But friend, you belong to the One who called Himself the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is not asking you to chart the course. He is not expecting you to keep all the pieces in the air. He simply asks you to stay close to Him. While you are studying the map and worrying about every turn, He is already out in front, clearing the road you cannot see and arranging details you do not even know to pray about.

Think back over your life. There were seasons you were not sure how you would pay the bills, raise the children, survive the loss, or bear the disappointment. At the time, it all looked dark and confusing. Later, when you looked back, you could trace His care through every detour and delay. What felt like confusion turned out to be protection. The God who carried you then has not changed. He is still guiding, still guarding, still opening a way where there does not seem to be one.

Right now, in this very ordinary moment, God is at work behind the scenes. While you stir a pot on the stove. While you answer a message from a grown child. While you straighten the pillows in the living room or sit at the table with a quiet cup of coffee. He is speaking to hearts you cannot reach. He is moving in rooms you will never sit in. He is unlocking doors that, from where you stand, still look shut.

Jesus Wants You To Know...

"Because I never leave your side, My Peace is always with you. You need this Peace each moment to live out My plan for your life. Sometimes you may want to take shortcuts - to reach your goal as quickly as possible. But if taking the shortcut means you turn your back on My peaceful Presence, then don’t do it. Keep walking with Me along paths of Peace - even in this crazy world."

"And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." - Isaiah 9:6 - "Jesus Calling for Kids" by Sarah Young

Meme: Someday...

Jesus Wants You To Know...

"When your plans are messed up, talk to Me about it. Talking with Me blesses you and strengthens our friendship. Also, I take the sting out of your disappointment by making something good come of it. So you can be joyful, even when things are going wrong. But it takes practice."
"But more than that, I count everything as loss compared to the priceless privilege and supreme advantage of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord [and of growing more deeply and thoroughly acquainted with Him - a joy unequaled]. For His sake I have lost everything, and I consider it all garbage, so that I may gain Christ," - Philippians 3:8 (AMP)

God Never Wastes a Wound

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3
There are seasons in life when the weight of pain feels almost unbearable. It might come through loss, betrayal, disappointment, or the quiet ache of waiting. Sometimes we try to hide our wounds, pretending they don’t exist. We smile, say we’re fine, and move on. But inside, something still hurts. The truth is, every wound has a story, and when we place that story in God’s hands, it can become something beautiful.
God never wastes a wound. He is not careless with your pain. He doesn’t allow suffering just to make you stronger or to test you for no reason. Every tear, every scar, every moment of struggle can become part of His greater plan for your life. What the enemy meant to break you, God can use to build you.
The prophet Jeremiah understood this deeply. He was called by God to speak truth to a nation that didn’t want to listen. He faced rejection, loneliness, and moments of deep despair. There were times Jeremiah felt forgotten by God, even angry with Him. But every time he cried out, God reminded him that his calling had purpose. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” That verse from Jeremiah 1:5 tells us something powerful. God knew Jeremiah before the pain ever came, and He had already planned how to use every part of Jeremiah’s story for His glory.
That’s true for you too. God saw your pain before it happened. He saw every sleepless night, every broken dream, every time you felt unseen. He doesn’t overlook those moments. He collects your tears and holds them close. Even when you don’t understand what He’s doing, He’s still working behind the scenes, shaping your heart and drawing you closer to Him.
Sometimes the place of your deepest pain becomes the place where you meet God most intimately. Pain strips away all the distractions and pride. It brings you to a point where you can finally say, “Lord, I can’t do this without You.” And that’s where healing begins. Jeremiah once said, “I am ridiculed all day long; everyone mocks me.” He was honest about his hurt. And God didn’t rebuke him for being honest. Instead, He strengthened him to keep walking.
You might not realize it now, but even in your hardest moments, God is near. He doesn’t pull away from brokenness; He leans into it. When your heart is raw and your words are messy, He listens. The same God who called Jeremiah to stand firm is standing beside you in your pain.
The Apostle Paul wrote something similar in 2 Corinthians 12:9. He said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Paul wanted God to remove what he called his “thorn in the flesh.” But instead of taking it away, God transformed it into a reminder of His grace. That’s what He does for us too. Sometimes the wounds we beg Him to erase are the very things that keep us close to Him. They remind us we’re not self-sufficient. They remind us we need His strength every single day.
Healing, though, doesn’t happen overnight. God can heal instantly, but often He chooses to do it in stages. Just like a physical wound needs time to close, emotional and spiritual wounds need time to mend. In Jeremiah 30:17, God promises, “I will restore you to health and heal your wounds.” That’s not an empty promise. It’s a process of restoration. God isn’t just trying to patch you up. He’s reshaping your heart, renewing your faith, and preparing you for what’s next.
Maybe you’ve prayed for healing for a long time and it feels like nothing has changed. Don’t give up. Just because you don’t see progress doesn’t mean God isn’t working. Healing is happening in ways you can’t see yet. He’s teaching you patience, building your endurance, and showing you how to rely on Him when nothing makes sense.
Sometimes healing isn’t about forgetting the wound. It’s about learning to live with peace even when the memory still stings. It’s about knowing that your scars are not signs of weakness but reminders of where God has brought you from. You can look back and say, “I didn’t think I’d make it through that, but God was faithful.”
When Jesus rose from the grave, He still had His scars. Think about that for a moment. The Son of God, who conquered death itself, chose to keep the marks in His hands and side. He could have returned without them, but He didn’t. His scars told a story, the story of victory, love, and redemption. They were proof that He had suffered, but also proof that He had overcome.
Your scars can tell a story too. What once brought you pain can now bring someone else hope. The very thing that hurt you can become the thing God uses to comfort others. The compassion you show, the wisdom you carry, the faith you’ve built, it all comes from walking through seasons of pain with God by your side.
God never wastes a wound. Every part of your story matters. Even the chapters you wish you could erase are part of the testimony He’s writing. He doesn’t just heal you to make you whole again; He heals you so you can help heal others. He restores you so you can point back and say, “Look what God has done.”
Maybe you’re in a place today where the pain feels fresh. Maybe you can’t see how any good could come from it. Hold on. God is still writing your story. He’s not finished yet. What looks like an ending might actually be the beginning of something new. The wound you have now might become the very place where His glory shines the brightest.
So keep trusting Him. Keep showing up. Keep praying, even when the words don’t come easily. Healing may take time, but it will come. One day you’ll look back and realize that God was with you in every step, turning every hurt into something holy.
Because He really never wastes a wound. - Ellie Mont

When It Hurts to Trust

Father, my head aches with thoughts that won’t stop. It feels like nails pressing in. My heart feels so heavy that even breathing feels like work. My eyes are open, but I can’t see where I’m going. I know Your will is better than mine, but part of me still aches for success, for something to finally work. I keep thinking that if I stop moving, everything will fall apart. But You whisper, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Sometimes faith feels like standing still while everything inside me wants to run. It’s hard to rest when the world keeps shouting that progress equals worth. Yet You remind me that You’re not measuring me by my productivity, but by my heart. You see me not as lazy, but as tired, not as failing, but as fighting.
You are the God who works in silence. The One who plants seeds deep underground before they ever touch sunlight. Maybe that’s what You’re doing now, burying something in me that will bloom later. Maybe my stillness isn’t failure, but the soil You’re preparing for growth.
You promised that Your plans are for my good, to give me hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). So even when it feels like I’m falling behind, remind me that I am exactly where You’ve placed me. Even when I can’t see what You’re building, help me believe You’re still working.
Let my heart unclench. Let my mind quiet down. Teach me that rest is holy, that waiting is sacred, and that success in Your eyes looks like surrender.
Because You are not done with me yet. And You never will be. - Ellie Mont

Discovering Your Purpose

Too many of us think that finding the reason God placed us here on earth will come in one lump assignment with a big title and complete job description. But I believe that discovering our purpose will unfold slowly, like a seed planted in the deep ground.
Each day, a seed embraces the task placed before it. Today it might have to embrace the dark soil it has been pushed into.
Tomorrow, it might be not resisting the water that makes it literally disintegrate and fall apart. And then in a week or two, a green shoot pushes up and out of the deep, dark, messy place.
Eventually, the seed sprouts and reveals what it was always meant to be. The seed’s potential is unlocked and its purpose is revealed through embracing each and every circumstance God brought its way.
Isn’t it glorious how nature doesn’t resist God? May the same be said of us as we seek to live our lives wholly for Him.
Father God, today we choose to embrace exactly where we are, even if it is hard and messy. Thank You that we can trust You are working every single thing together for good. We believe that we are safe in Your embrace. Amen.
