God Isn't Trying To Break You

Prayer: Conquering Fear

Prayer: Author and Finisher of My Faith
The LORD will perfect that which concerns me;
Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.
Psalm 138:8
Daily I walk along the path of choosing. Decisions of life and death constantly before me. My choices will either draw me to you or lead me away. Each day I will declare that you are my God and nothing, not even my own selfish desires, will rule my life.
I fall into your arms. Not because I'm weary or defeated, but because I know you are my only hope. You don't want me to strive and take control. You only ask that I rest in you and release every care.
Without you, I'm nothing. Though my mind seeks to know the outcome of every situation, I will trust you. Your love has never failed me. I don't need to understand all of your plans, I only need to believe that they are good. You are the Author and Finisher of my faith. Every one of your faithful promises will come to pass. You will finish the work you've started in me.

Finding Contentment Through Christ's Strength
Help!
This word may be simple, but my prayer sure wasn’t. It was one of the most gut-wrenching prayers I had ever prayed … and the most powerful.
It came after months of watching an already heartbreaking situation spin devastatingly out of control. I had cried out in prayer many times, offering up my solutions to God. But I was all out of words, with nothing left but a cry for help.
Have you ever come to the end of yourself like that?
I’m reminded of Philippians 4:13: “I am able to do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Sometimes we may be tempted to read this verse out of context, but God's Word isn't cheerleading us to do whatever we want. While it’s true that anything good we accomplish is by God's power (John 15:5), if we zoom out a bit in the book of Philippians, we see Paul’s words weren't really about achieving our dreams.
Instead, Paul wrote his letter to the church in Philippi to encourage believers to find joy in Christ, persevere in faith no matter what, and “be content” in all circumstances (Philippians 4:11-12, CSB). The good and the bad. Moments of triumph and moments of desperation and emptiness.
When he wrote this around A.D. 60-64, Paul was imprisoned in Rome for preaching the gospel. When he said, “I am able to do all things,” he mostly meant things no one wants to do, like endure suffering and wait for God to intervene. Yet Paul revealed the secret to his contentment: It came by Christ’s strength alone.
Paul was not speaking about mere feelings of happiness, which he wasn't feeling in prison. Instead, true contentment means deeply trusting in God’s sovereignty and receiving His peace even when life feels overwhelming.
In my situation, I had been fighting God for control. I knew my desired outcome. Though I knew I should pray for His will to be done … what if His will went against everything I desperately wanted to happen?
But my strength was gone, so I had only two choices: 1) give up and sink into despair or 2) trust the God of the universe to do what He knew was best.
I chose the latter. And while the situation didn’t change, I sure did. Peace flooded my heart as I went from wrestling God to resting in His sovereign power and grace.
Contentment amid heartbreak is possible when we choose to rely on His strength rather than our own. Is there something you need to let go of to experience that for yourself? Will you trust Him enough to do so? Even if all you have to offer is a cry for help, that's all you really need.
Father, trusting You can be hard, but wrestling You is even harder. Give us the strength to lay down our resistance so we can experience true strength and contentment that comes only from You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Jesus Wants You To Know...
"Walk with Me in holy trust, responding to My initiatives rather than trying to make things fit your plans. I died to set you free, and that includes freedom from compulsive planning. When your mind spins with a multitude of thoughts, you cannot hear My voice. A mind preoccupied with planning pays homage to the idol of control. Turn from this idolatry back to Me. Listen to Me and live abundantly!"

Prayer: God's Infinite Grace
Father, I stand before the vastness of Your creation and I am reminded of Your infinite grace that has no end.
Just the Next Step
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
God is teaching me so much about really trusting Him. Fully. Completely. Wholeheartedly.
Though the path I’m on may feel uncertain, He’s faithful to shed just enough light for me to see the very next step. And this isn’t Him being mysterious - this is a great demonstration of His mercy. Instead of bombarding Him with my suggestions or projections, clenching my fists, and reaching for control, I simply need to embrace and obey the very next thing He shows me. And then the next.
That’s what it means to truly “trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5).
Because here’s what I know about myself: If God showed me too much revelation through an exact blueprint of where I'm headed, I might panic if His plan didn’t match what I desperately want. Or I might be tempted to take control and make things happen on my own.
On the flip side, if He showed me too little, never revealing Himself or His guidance, I’d be paralyzed with the thought that He’d abandoned me.
But in His kindness, God gives each of us just enough revelation to keep going today - an invitation from Him to be fully obedient to Him right now. When I read scriptures like Proverbs 3:5-6, I can feel His prodding in my heart: Lysa, are you being obedient to Me in this?
Or as I listen to wise counsel, I am challenged: Lysa, are you willing to implement what is being suggested to you in this situation?
Often my confusion isn’t because God is being mysterious; it’s because I’m not being obedient. As I enter this brand-new day, I’m seeking Him rather than trying to figure out His plan. Instead of filling the gaps of the unknown with my suggestions to God, I’m placing my trust in Him.
We don’t have to know it all to trust Him completely. We can take it one day at a time. One step at a time. One act of obedience at a time. One sliver of light at a time.
El Shaddai, God Almighty, I want to trust You fully, wholeheartedly, with everything. But You know this can wage war with my desire to be certain, to understand, and to control. It feels like there are too many unknowns in my life, but thank You that You are constant, the same yesterday, today, and forever. You know I have dreams, desires, and hopes for my future. Often I want to run ahead of You and make all these happen. But I don’t want to lean on my own understanding; I want to lean on You. I know the best place to be is in Your will. I can count on You to guide me, revealing one step at a time. Whether it’s a small step or a big one, help me to obey. I know each step of obedience increases my faith in You. I want to be someone who lives every day in step with You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Surrendering Control
God Hasn’t Brought You This Far To Leave You
Life is full of joy, but it’s also unpredictable. And sometimes it’s scary. Throughout Scripture, we see God’s people learning to trust Him and step forward in faith even when fear lingered close behind.
That’s what was happening when Moses reminded the Israelites of God’s faithfulness in Deuteronomy 1:29-31. They stood on the edge of the land God had promised them, but fear made them hesitate. They wondered, What if God doesn’t come through this time?
I can relate to that. Maybe you can too. Even when I’ve seen God’s goodness with my own “very eyes” (Deuteronomy 1:30), fear still tries to convince me otherwise.
But God’s reminder to the ancient Israelites is the same one He offers us today: I am going before you. I will fight for you. You’ve seen Me do it before, and I’ll do it again.
Moses described God’s care this way: “The LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place” (Deuteronomy 1:31). Isn’t that beautiful? God had been carrying them the whole time. Every step, every detour, every delay - until they reached this place.
Fear often lives in the next place: the unknowns of next week, next year, or whatever lies ahead. But faith lives right here, in this place, where God has already proven Himself faithful.
When I look back, I can see how God has carried me through loss, waiting, and change I never expected. And if He’s carried me here, I can trust that He’ll carry me forward too.
Whatever you’re facing today, rest in knowing your God is near and good. The same God who brought you to this place will get you to the next, and He will never leave you.
Lord, thank You for carrying me in every season. When fear tries to take over, remind me that You go before me and fight for me. Help me rest in Your faithfulness right here, in this place. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer: Rest and Restoration

Jesus Wants You To Know...
"Though you may not understand how, I am loving you and I am working in your life. Sometimes My ways are a mystery, but My Love for you is not. It is always perfect and always yours. Rest in this wonderful Love. Rather than trying to control things or think through your problems, close your eyes. Curl up in My Presence. Take a deep breath and let My Love surround you."
God Is With You
You may not understand why the burdens press so hard or why the world seems louder than your prayers. Yet God sees every tear, He hears every sigh, and He is gently holding you in His presence. Let your mind rest on Him, not on the chaos around you, for He is your peace.
