You may feel like you’re barely holding on, but your security has never been found in how tightly you can hold on to Jesus. It is found in how securely Jesus is holding you. The cross settled that. His blood settled that. His resurrection settled that. You belong to Him, and this season does not have the authority to change what Jesus has already declared over your life. The storm may shake what is around you, but it cannot shake you out of His hands.
I believe there is going to come a day when you look back at what you’re crying about right now and realize Jesus was carrying you through the entire thing. You’re going to remember the nights you thought you couldn’t take another disappointment. You’re going to remember the morning you didn’t want to get out of bed. You’re going to remember wondering how anything good could possibly come after this. And then you’re going to look at where Jesus brought you and whisper, “You really were with me the whole time.”
Please don’t confuse a painful chapter with the conclusion of your story. This is not where Jesus stops writing. The disciples once found themselves in a storm while Jesus was right there in the boat. His presence did not prevent the storm from appearing, but the storm never had the authority to determine their destination. And neither does yours. The wind can be loud. The waves can rise. Your emotions can feel overwhelmed. But none of those things get the final word over someone who belongs to Jesus.
There are things you cannot see yet. There are conversations you don’t know are happening. There are doors you don’t know are being prepared. There are hearts Jesus can reach that you cannot reach. There are situations completely outside of your control that have never been outside of His. You do not have to figure everything out tonight. You do not have to know how He is going to do it. You can rest knowing that the One who gave His life for you is not going to abandon you halfway through your story.
And maybe that is what your heart needs to hear most: you have not been abandoned. Jesus did not bring you this far to suddenly become distant from you. The same Savior who carried your sin upon Himself is carrying you now. The same Jesus who walked out of the grave lives in you. Resurrection life is already your inheritance. So even when something around you looks finished, you serve a Savior who has never been intimidated by things that look dead.
I believe tears are going to fall from your eyes again, but they will not always be tears of exhaustion. Some of them are going to be tears of relief. Tears when the answer finally comes. Tears when you realize you survived what you thought would destroy you. Tears when you see your family smiling again. Tears when something you stopped expecting suddenly stands in front of you. And when that day comes, you will know it was never your strength that carried you there. It was Jesus.
So tonight, you can unclench your hands. You can breathe. You can stop demanding that your heart understand tomorrow before you allow yourself to rest today. This tough season will not overtake you. Jesus has already overcome, and you are safely hidden in Him. Whatever tomorrow holds, Jesus will already be there. And one day, what feels like the longest night of your life will become another place in your story where you can point back with tears in your eyes and say, “Jesus never left me.”
